The product was historically sold in oak barrels of fifty-seven to sixty-eight gallons.

In the early 1900s, Mr. Dalton Vilbon, a General in the Haitian Army, established more modern facilities in Port-au-Prince. At the time, the product was sold as “Clairin.”

In 1980, the BOUVIL trademark started to be used commercially.
